In this post, we will provide detailed information about the JLPT in Singapore, including test dates, registration details, and costs. JLPT Test Dates and Locations

The JLPT is conducted twice a year in Singapore: on the first Sunday of July and December. The upcoming test dates are:

• July Test: Sunday, 7 July 2024
• December Test: First Sunday of December

The test is held at the Singapore Management University (SMU), utilising two separate locations to accommodate all candidates:

1. SMU School of Economics (SOE) / SMU School of Computing & Information Systems 2 (SCIS 2)

2. SMU School of Computing & Information Systems 1 (SCIS 1)

Registration Details

Registration for the JLPT in Singapore is available online only and opens in phases. It’s important to register early as there is a limit on the number of candidates for each test level, and registration may close early if the maximum number is reached.

• JLPT (July) - Registration Period: 11 to 28 March 2024
• JLPT (December) - Registration Period: Mid-August (exact dates TBA)

Test Levels and Fees:

• N1: Limited to 400 candidates, registration opens on 11 March 2024, fee $110
• N2: Limited to 400 candidates, registration opens on 13 March 2024, fee $110
• N3: Limited to 400 candidates, registration opens on 18 March 2024, fee $110
• N4: Limited to 450 candidates, registration opens on 20 March 2024, fee $100
• N5: Limited to 450 candidates, registration opens on 25 March 2024, fee $100

Test Structure and Preparation

The JLPT consists of different sections:

1. Vocabulary

2. Grammar/Reading

3. Listening

Preparation Tips:

• Familiarise Yourself with the Test Format: Understand the structure and types of questions for each section.
• Practice Regularly: Use JLPT practice books, online resources, and mock tests.
• Join Study Groups: Participate in study groups or classes to stay motivated and get help from peers.
• Use Japanese Media: Enhance your listening and reading skills by consuming Japanese media such as TV shows, podcasts, and newspapers.

Important Information for Test Day

• Test Timetable: The exact schedule will be provided upon registration. Be sure to arrive on time as latecomers will be denied entry.
• Required Documents: Bring your ID (NRIC) card for verification.
• Refusal of Entry: Examinees will be denied entry if they do not bring their ID or are late. No refunds will be provided in such cases.
